TCC GIS Maps

GIS maps viewed online

This page accesses portions of TCC's website that allow interactive mapping.  The data displayed on the maps have been acquired or developed by TCC Forestry as part of a Geographic Information System that has been in development for the last decade or so.  The maps are displayed using ArcIMS 9.2 software from ESRI Inc., and require you to be using a relatively current version of a web browser - ESRI claims that supported browsers include Netscape 7.1 or better or Microsoft internet Explorer 6.0 or better; other versions or browsers may or may not produce desired results.

Warning:  Some of the tools on some of these viewers attempt to display information in additional newly opened browser windows; if your browser installation has enabled a popup blocker, these functions will not work properly.  To restore that functionality, the popup blocker needs to be disabled; in Internet Explorer, this is accomplished by making a selection on the Tools menu.

If you have any questions, or would like to see a particular map posted, please contact Will Putman, Forester Director, phone 452-8251 ext. 3373

Currently available maps:

  • Native Allotments Viewer - This is a viewer that displays Native Allotments statewide on various map layers, including USGS quads and available satellite imagery and aerial photography.  This site is in development; some of the custom tools do not have full functionality yet
  • TCC Region Satellite Images - This viewer displays satellite image data acquired by TCC, and includes a tool that can be used to extract and download portions of the images.  Some of the images were processed as part of a Tanana Valley Community Mapping and Wildland Fuel Mapping Project conducted in cooperation with The State of Alaska Division of Forestry; others were acquired by TCC in connection with forestry or planning projects.  Images include DigitalGlobe QuickBird high-resolution images (0.6m spatial resolution) and Spot 5 images (2.5m spatial resolution).
  • Tanana Valley Fall Chum Salmon Spawning Study - This viewer displays data collected as part of cooperative study being conducted by the State of Alaska Department of Fish and Game, TCC's Wildlife and Parks program, and others.  Telemetry data of fish locations is displayed on USGS quads and aerial photography along the Tanana River between Fairbanks and Delta Junction.
  • Tanana River Erosion Study - A simple viewer displaying spatial data collected and processed as part of an ongoing Tanana River Erosion Study being conducted in cooperation with the State of Alaska Department of Natural Resources, Division of Forestry.  The study is essentially a change analysis of the entire Tanana River, based on comparing the location of the river channels as seen on 1978 aerial photographs to the channel locations as seen on 1998 satellite imagery.  For a copy of the report associated with this project, click here.
